With going direct to the starter and not being able to here more then a click it would be the solenoid that would be the problem if we knew for sure that it wasn't a dirty lead to the starter. It could be any wire that might need a little cleaning to perfect the circuit. ....

Thanks Art. Will pull all safety switches and clean and reconnect. Will redo all PTO levers and clean and refasten all connections around solenoid and report back. ....

Tried to start again. Same click. Was going to check all connections. Lifted seat and all four spade clips felt tight on the two switches? Went ahead and pulled each one off and replugged them. Tractor started. They felt firmly connected but apparently unplugging and plugging them back in done something. ....

It might take you a bit of time but take that junction apart and then look inside the terminals, green is bad, give the wires a little tug where they go in to see if they are tight. ....

Thanks Art. I have a couple of old cars and on the forums about maintaining the cars there is constant mention of dielectric grease for electrical connections. Is that the same as white grease sold at Walmart? ....

John, I believe you're thinking of White Lithium grease, that's a different animal.
You want "dielectric grease" which is sometimes white, but often clear like petroleum jelly. Go to any good auto parts place and ask for it by name. If they don't know what it is, ask for the stuff you put in trailer plugs or snow plow connectors to keep them from shorting out.
Best of luck. ....

Thanks Murf. I suspected that the White grease was not dielectric grease because it didn't say it anywhere on the can so now I'll follow your advise. ....

Many of the terminals are all machine done, I guess that doesn't make much difference as to man or machine but sometimes they don't get a good crimp on the wire and the can easily be pulled out. ....
